Why mark a copy before you send it
Banks, insurers, phone companies, employers and schools all ask you for the same things: your ID, your bank details, your supporting documents. Every copy you upload is a copy stored beyond your control, and the breaches that expose documents like these affect millions of people every year. A watermarked copy names its purpose: reused anywhere else, it gives itself away.
A rental application is where that risk piles up. ID, three payslips, tax notice, rent receipts, employment contract — for you and for your guarantor, handed to a stranger. It is the largest set of personal documents most people will ever send.

This is what makes a fraudulent file detectable: it is assembled from documents stolen in different places. A payslip marked for a rental application, submitted with a credit application, stands out as a mismatch anyone can spot.

Your documents are read and watermarked on your computer, nowhere else: no server, no account. Fili sends no documents and no personal data: only a usage measurement, which can be switched off in one click.
- Your files do not leave your browser. Analysis produces a result; the content is not kept.
- Metadata removed by default: EXIF, GPS, PDF title and author.
- One reference code per send (ref. XXXX-XXXX), visible and written into the file’s properties: it identifies the copy concerned. Random, and can be switched off.
- Minimal permissions: your settings and your local ledger, nothing else. No history, no tabs.
- Anti-spoofing: the toolbar icon lights up while a genuine Fili dialog is open. A web page cannot fake that.
Open to everyone, nothing to install
A payslip marked “Document for a rental application only” has no place in a credit application: that mismatch is the sign of a copy used outside its purpose. The checker spots known wordings, names the stated purpose and reads the reference code, without the document leaving your computer. It identifies marks; it does not prove a document is genuine.

Are my documents sent to a server?
No, never. Detection and watermarking run in your browser. Fili sends no documents and no personal data: only a usage measurement, which can be switched off in one click. No file, no filename, no website address, no IP address. The privacy policy sets out exactly what that measurement contains.
How is this different from online watermarking services?
They start by uploading your document to their servers, and you have to trust them to delete it. Fili does the same job at the moment you upload, without the document ever leaving your machine.
Which documents does Fili recognise?
The full rental dossier: ID card, passport, driving licence, residence permit, health card, bank details (RIB), payslips, tax notices, rent receipts, employment contract, family-benefits or unemployment statements (CAF / France Travail), student card, company registration extract (Kbis), proof of address and property. Banks, insurers and government services ask for the same ones.
Is a file with an unhelpful name still recognised?
Fili also reads the content, locally: a photographed passport is recognised whatever the file is named.
What is the “ref.” printed on the copy?
The reference of that exact send. If your documents resurface in a leak, it identifies the copy concerned, and the recipient it was given to. Random, no personal data, off in one click.
Do agencies accept watermarked documents?
Fili defaults to the standard wording agencies recognise. Some organisations may still require a clean copy: Fili reminds you, and “send the original” stays one click away.
Why no digital signature?
Recipients would not check it. The fraud this guards against is the reuse of a copy taken out of context, and a visible mark survives a screenshot. Official documents already carry their own verification mark, which Fili preserves.
